OUR SWEEPS JUDGE:
Krista Rohrbach Hi my name is Krista Rohrbach and I am of Swiss German decent presently living in Gatineau, Quebec with my sweetheart dogs and constant companions; my 12 1/2 year old mini-wirehair dachshund, Oliver, Prelude’s a Twist of Fate and 9 month Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Kohl Havadream Starlit Midnight Sky. By profession I was a youth probation officer in Ottawa, for 33 years but have been retired since 2016, For as long as I can remember I have been involved with purebred dogs in one form or another, a true family passion foster by my dad, Alfred Rohrbach under the Bernina Kennel name., since the 1960’s.
My first love has always been as an active competitor in the conformation ring where I first began to show German Shepherds in my early teens. I have since shown a variety of different breeds to their Canadian and American Championship conformation titles. but have left the serious obedience work to my twin sister, Heidi and her daughter Lisa. My most memorable show dogs were “Bruno” aka MBIS, MBISS Can Ch. Am Ch. Bernina Bach Bruno v. Lowenzehn TT, CGN and my miniature wire haired dachshund, “Winston”, aka BIS, BISS Can Ch. Am Ch. Prelude’s Salute to EJ MW and on very limited showing our “Echo” aka, Can Ch. Bernina Cresta Storm Dancer CGC
From 1997 to 2008, I focused my attention mostly on showing our homebred Bernina BMD’s in both Canada and the USA.
For those people who already know me, know that Heidi and I had worked hard over many years in the planning and the developing of Bernina Kennel. Our limited breeding program had always centered on soundness in temperament, type, movement, structure and health. Unfortunately in 2006, as a result of our ailing elderly parents it was decided that we would retire from breeding to focus on the ever increasing needs of our parents.
Outside the conformation ring I have also had a variety of experiences: tracking, search and rescue and obedience with our Shepherds, obedience, agility, and therapy work, with my BMDs and den trials with my Mini wire dachshunds. I firmly believe that the dogs that we commit to owning and breeding should be capable of doing the work that they are born and bred to do.
I am currently a member in good standing of the CKC. Over the many years, I have been a member and completed a variety of different functions in national, regional and local clubs with the aim of welcoming new members and fostering good sportsmanship as well as promoting purebred dogs to the public.
I would like to thank the BMDCOSWO for the opportunity to judge the Sweeps competition and I look forward to this assignment and being back in the ring in different capacity.
